Going Green

In an effort to assist Los Angeles World Airports and Mayor Villaraigosa in developing a 10-year plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% and make LAX the “Greenest Airport in the World” Mercury has been investigating the most cost effective, efficient electric ground support equipment available.

LAX is drafting a comprehensive Ground Service Equipment Conversion Policy that requires converting the entire GSE fleet at LAX to almost zero emission by 2015.

Our goal is to make electric ground support equipment available to our rental customers that will comply with this policy. Some of the major benefits associated with electric GSE are the fuel savings, minimal maintenance costs and most importantly slowing the progression of greenhouse gases in our environment. Doing nothing is not a viable alternative for GSE suppliers.

We anticipate having a wide variety of electric vehicles in our rental fleet over the next few years, i.e., at the same time fazing out our gas and diesel powered GSE. Some of the Manufacturer’s of electric GSE we will carry are Toyota, FMC Jetway, and Charlatte.
